SLOVAKIA IS PART OF A NEW EUROPEAN CONSORTIUM
An initial meeting took place in Lisbon at the beginning of May and started an international cooperation on an important ECHoS project (Establishing of Cancer Mission Hubs: Networks and Synergies). The goal of the project is to create national Cancer Mission Hubs in every EU country within the new European consortium which will use 6 million euros to create this national network.
The consortium pools expert knowledge of over 50 leading governmental, healthcare, academic and non-profit organizations from 28 countries.
Slovakia is represented in the project by the National Oncology Institute, part of National Cancer Institute, and Cancer Research Foundation, which are going to cooperate with consortium coordinators (Agency for Clinical Research and Biomedical Innovation, AICIB, Portugal) and leading experts from around Europe to establish the national Cancer Mission Hub in Slovakia.
“ECHoS will significantly strengthen national and international cooperation, support inclusion and encourage the development of innovations in cancer care. This will contribute to an acceleration of oncological research in Slovakia. This is an opportunity to tailor the activities in oncology to precise needs of our patients and society,” emphasized co-coordinators of the ECHoS project on a national level: Dr. Mária Rečková, director of NOI, Dr. Soňa Čierniková, research and education projects coordinator at NOI and Dr. Ján Sedlák, member of the Cancer Research Foundation board of directors.
